Chaparral Fire Mitigation, Response & Rehabilitation

Fire Mitigation

The best method of fire suppression is preventing fire damage in the first place, which is why Chaparral offers mitigation in the form of land clearing and mastication, to minimize the potential for damage to your property and structures. However, wildfires do happen. Chaparral Construction is working closely with Firewise communities and organizations to help them be prepared for wildfires.

Wildfire Response & Suppression

Chaparral holds multiple contracts with VIPR (Virtual Incident Procurement), a service connected to and overseen by the United States Forest Service, whose function is to organize the response of heavy equipment to large, federally managed wildfires for the purposes of structure protection, fire containment, etc.

Chaparral responds to state and federal incidents across Region 2, in addition to our close-to-home incidents in Colorado. In 2018, Chaparral responded to a fire right in our back yard, the Spring Creek Fire, which burned over 108,000 acres, with multiple pieces of heavy equipment. Chaparral not only cut over 10 miles of fire line with a Type 2 dozer, ranging from Colorado Highway 160 to Blue and Bear Lakes, but also performed over a month of rehab on the burn scar.

Wildfire Rehabilitation

While many wildfires cause minimal damage to the land and pose few threats to the land or people downstream, some fires cause damage that requires special efforts to prevent problems afterwards. Loss of vegetation exposes soil to erosion; water runoff may increase and cause flooding; sediments may move downstream and damage houses or fill reservoirs putting endangered species and community water supplies at risk. Chaparral Construction not only has the equipment but also decades of experience of helping clean up after wildfires.
